Sands Chevrolet in Glendale to Sponsor Local Driver at PIR
Glendale, Ariz. (November 9, 2010) – Sands Chevrolet, located at 5418 NW Grand Avenue in Glendale, will become an associate sponsor of the Whitney Motorsports Sprint Cup Series team in this weekend’s Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. The Sands Chevrolet logos will appear on the No. 46 SuperPawn Chevrolet Impala driven by Glendale native Michael McDowell.
“Our dealership is a huge supporter of the entire community,” said Bill McDowell, Internet manager at Sands Chevrolet. “Being Michael’s brother, I’ve obviously followed his career very closely and as soon as he made the switch to Chevrolet from the other manufacturers it put the wheels in motion. The stars are finally aligned and we’re happy to be on board with him and Whitney Motorsports. We’re all anxious to see how he does in front of the home town crowd.”
“It’s great to be able to support a local kid from Arizona,” said Buzz Sands, owner of Sands Chevrolet. "We’ve been in business in Glendale for 77 years and we’ve built our reputation on giving back to the community. It’s great to be able to see Michael, a young guy from right here in Glendale, go on to the highest levels of NASCAR and we hope for that same type of success for him this weekend.”
For his part, Michael McDowell is equally enthused about carrying the Sands Chevrolet logos throughout the weekend.
“Any time we get to race in Phoenix it’s a big deal,” he said. “But to come back and have the great people at Sands Chevrolet supporting us it’s an even bigger deal. I grew up seeing the Sands Chevrolet commercials on TV and hearing them on the radio and seeing their ads in the newspaper. They were Chevrolet to me and to just about every other kid in the area. I’m looking forward to going out and putting on a good show for them and everyone they’re going to have in the grandstands watching us.”
Sands Chevrolet expects to have a large contingent of customers and clients to cheer on McDowell on Sunday.
“We usually have about 100 to 150 customers and employees at the NASCAR races,” Bill McDowell said. “We’ve been in business in Glendale for 77 years in the same location so a lot of our business is repeat business and referrals. We get a lot of that repeat business because we try to go above and beyond what many of the other local dealers do. If any of our customers express an interest in racing, we make note of it. We’ll go through our records and invite as many of them out to the races as we can.”
